The Tower Bridge, stretching across the River Thames, has become an iconic symbol of London. The bridge consists of two towers which are tied together at the upper level by means of two horizontal walkways. It is a combination of a bascule bridge and suspension bridge. Construction took 8 years and the bridge was officially opened on June 30, 1894
