Dürnstein, a village on the left bank of the Danube in the Wachau, with a ruined castle in which King Richard I of England was held prisoner by Duke Leopold of Austria in 1193. The episode in which the minstrel Blondel is supposed to have discovered Richard is traditionally located at Dürnstein.
